Curriculum Detail
Understanding Women
Learning to hold space for your students without your own story taking centre stage, practising the yoga philosophy of non-judgement and understanding the teacher-student relationship as a cornerstone of trust and confidentiality. Includes a foundation module on the basic neurology behind postnatal depression, trauma and PTSD.
Understanding Babies In Vitro
Connecting with baby to build bonding, belly mapping, optimum foetal positioning and understanding diaphragmatic release and Spinning Babies techniques ~ knowing what's possible, what to try and when to signpost on.
Understanding Birth
Birth intentions, the anatomy and hormones of labour and the positive feedback loop, the role of birth partners, positions and movement for labour, natural and medical pain relief options, interventions, the third stage, vitamin K, feeding and responding to birth trauma and PND.
Understanding Pregnancy
GBS prevention, perineal massage and other practical preparation for labour and life as a new parent, plus an honest look at current NHS practices, language and options for birthing beyond the system.
Understanding How to Teach a Class
Venues, timing and structuring your course, housekeeping and confidentiality, plus how to deliver our unique "Breathe, Move and Relax to Birth" ethos ~ whether you're running a group course, a weekend retreat, or working with a couple or individual 1:1.
How the Course Works
Training starts with a welcome and introductory session online via Zoom. You'll then get access to pre-recorded sessions sharing key course content, plus our Resource Library of class recordings and discussions to support your learning. We suggest spending the first 2-3 weeks immersing yourself in the content before beginning your assignments.
You'll complete three assignments along the way. The first is a personal reflection on your intentions and target audience as an educator. The second asks you to build "Preparing for Birth & Baby" course plans across a range of real formats ~ an all-day 6-8hr course, a 4hr intensive, a weekend retreat, a course split over 4-6 weeks and bespoke 121 sessions for couples or for women without a partner present ~ so you leave genuinely able to teach however suits you and your clients. The third is teaching practice: you'll deliver two full "Preparing for Birth & Baby" sessions with real couples and write up your own self-reflection afterwards.
Along the way we also ask you to observe at least two LushTums Antenatal Education courses and two others ~ NCT, NHS, Daisy Birthing, Hypnobirthing, doulas or midwives working with their own clients ~ so you see how different approaches compare.

All coursework is fully assessed, with an overall pass mark of 75% required to graduate. Once you've passed, you'll receive your LushTums certificate of excellence and can register with FEDANT to teach as a LushTums Antenatal Education Teacher, plus join our Teachers' Community and access Business Launch & Mentoring with Clare.

Do I need any birth, baby or teaching experience?
No experience needed at all. We've trained mums, midwives, doulas and complete career changers ~ our manual and mentorship take you from wherever you're starting.
Can I teach 1:1 rather than groups?
Absolutely ~ it's built into the training. You'll actually plan course formats for group courses, weekend retreats, day intensives and bespoke 121 sessions, so you graduate ready to teach however suits you and your clients, including women without a partner present.
Does this cover doula or hypnobirthing training too?
Not as standalone qualifications yet ~ we're currently developing dedicated Doula and Hypnobirthing modules, pending accreditation. This course already gives you a genuine foundation though, including our "Doula Effect" teaching and hypnobirthing-style breathing and relaxation techniques woven throughout.
What if I'm working or have young children ~ will I have time?
Absolutely, yes! We've had many people train with us while managing small babies, little ones underfoot or a full-time job alongside their studies. The course is entirely self-paced with 12 months access, so you build it around your life rather than the other way round.
